NMAC’s Emerging Leader Community Youth Award recognizes a young leader whose service, advocacy, leadership, or community impact is helping build a healthier, more equitable future.

Community members are invited to nominate young people ages 18–29 who are making a meaningful difference through work related to HIV, health equity, racial justice, LGBTQ+ communities, population health, community organizing, advocacy, or related social justice efforts.

Eligibility

Nominees must:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 29 as of December 1, 2026.
  • Demonstrate meaningful leadership, service, advocacy, or community impact.
  • Show a commitment to improving the health, well-being, or equity of their community.
  • Be nominated by another individual. Self-nominations are not accepted.
  • Be willing, if selected as a finalist, to have their name, photo, biography, and nomination story shared publicly as part of the People’s Choice voting process.
  • Be available to participate in recognition connected to NMAC’s Champions of Legacy Gala on December 3, either in person or virtually if needed.

Nomination Process

Nominations will remain open through October 31, 2026.

After the nomination period closes, NMAC will review all eligible nominations and select a group of finalists based on their leadership, impact, and alignment with the purpose of the award.

The number of nominations received will not influence finalist selection. Multiple nominations for the same individual do not increase that person’s likelihood of becoming a finalist.

Finalists will be contacted by NMAC before their information is shared publicly.

People’s Choice Voting

Selected finalists will advance to a public voting period in November. Community members will have the opportunity to learn more about each finalist and participate in selecting the 2026 Emerging Leader Community Youth Award recipient.

The award recipient will be recognized during NMAC’s Champions of Legacy Gala on December 3, 2026.

Before You Submit

Please be prepared to provide basic information about the nominee, including their contact information, and a brief description of their leadership, service, and community impact.

NMAC may contact the nominator or nominee if additional information is needed to verify eligibility or support the finalist selection process.
